While there’s always something happening at The Cresset, the Peterborough theatre’s newly announced season is set to raise the curtain on an exciting programme of must-see entertainment. From the very best laugh-out-loud comedy, to live music and family favourites, there’s something for everyone – whether you’re a seasoned theatre-goer or planning your very first visit.
“We’re thrilled to unveil a fantastic new season of shows; offering an even greater variety of performances, bringing big names to the city, and extending our family and young people’s provision – all while still offering brilliant value for money!” explains Cresset Director Louise Chantal.
“For nearly 50 years now, The Cresset has been an important community and cultural asset for Peterborough and its wider region. We’re excited to bring about the next chapter for this much-loved venue, and take a big step towards achieving our ambitious goals.”
With new season brochures hitting the shelves this June, there’s a multitude of acts and live performances to keep audiences entertained.
Comedy lovers will enjoy a star-packed programme, including appearances from much-loved comedians Chris Ramsey (29 Oct), Susan Calman (19 Nov), Last One Laughing’s Judi Love (11 Sept), your favourite Pub Landlord Al Murray (24 Sept), and Roy Chubby Brown (18 Sept). Plus, don’t forget to bring your friends to The Cresset’s Comedy Club – the city’s longest-running comedy show, hosting the very best in live stand-up each month.
Families can also discover the joy of theatre, starting with an explosive Ministry of Science Live (27 June), followed by K-Pop All Stars (2 July) – the chance to experience the excitement, colour, and emotion of the world’s biggest pop movement.
If your children have never been to the theatre before, then My First Concert (5 July) is the perfect introduction. It’s packed with nursery rhymes, fun characters, and audience interaction. Spot’s Birthday Party (25 Oct) provides an interactive show for little ones, and every ticket comes with a free party hat and a meet and greet opportunity with Spot after the show.
The upcoming music programme at The Cresset certainly doesn’t disappoint! Join the UK’s No. 1 vocal harmony quartet and original X Factor stars, G4, for the ultimate celebration of musical theatre: Phantoms of the Popera (17 June). Scottish pop icons The Proclaimers will also be returning to the live stage (10 July), with an unforgettable performance of all their classic hits.
Of course, we can’t overlook the world-leading tribute acts that The Cresset is known and loved for – including Luke Combs UK (5 Sept), Americana Revue (12 Sept), Luther Live & Velvet Voices (19 Sept), The Magic of Motown (25 Sept), The Illegal Eagles (23 Oct), The Kings Voice (7 Nov), and Man in the Mirror (31 Oct) starring one of the world’s most acclaimed Michael Jackson tribute artists – officially the UK’s No.1 Tribute show!
If you’re after something a little bit different, you need to experience the phenomenon that is Bongo’s Bingo! Sold out UK-wide, this mix of comedy, dance-offs, rave intervals, audience participation (and some traditional bingo!) promises countless magical moments.
And if that’s not quirky enough for you, there’s also Dynamic Over-The-Top Action Wrestling (2 Aug); the International Indian Dance Festival (31 July), presented by Peterborough Cultural Alliance in association with The Cresset; world-class dance direct from the West End in Adam Garcia’s Emerald Storm (14 Nov); expert talks a-plenty; party nights, burlesque shows, and so much more.
In October, Cresset Arts and Theatre School presents another unmissable musical extravaganza – The Wizard of Oz (6-10 Oct). And that’s before we even start to mention The Cresset’s Christmas shows and its legendary panto, which was seen by more than 16,000 people last year! This time around, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell will be going on an awfully big adventure…
Beyond the entertainment, audiences will be delighted to discover that every ticket sold helps a very worthy cause. As part of the YMCA Trinity Group, all The Cresset’s profits directly support young and vulnerable people in our communities. In addition, The Cresset’s thriving Performing Arts Programme is dedicated to creating and providing opportunities for young people to boost their confidence, wellbeing and personal development.
Your visit to The Cresset wouldn’t be complete without a pre-show supper in The Fayre Spot. This welcoming bar and restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and refreshments seven days a week. Plus, getting to the theatre is simple, whether you’re coming from the city centre or out of town. Located just off the ring road in Bretton, there’s plenty of free parking, and it’s easily accessible by bus and bike too.
