We are celebrating today after being awarded £7,300 in funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest funder of community activity in the UK.
The grant is to support our Jubilee project: Our Queen’s Story which invites primary schools and performing arts groups to participate in the platinum jubilee celebrations by creating a piece of performance art depicting an event from HM The Queen’s life.
This new National Lottery funding will support us to stage a VIP awards ceremony for the winning performances, and to host a month-long public display of all the performances on a giant screen here at The Cresset.
National Lottery players raise over £30 million a week for good causes across the UK. The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to prosper and thrive.
Monique Benoiton, Performing Arts Development Officer at The Cresset said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can really showcase the work that young people across the city have put in to create fantastic performances. Participating in the project has given hundreds of children an opportunity to get creative, have fun and to learn more about The Queen’s life. This funding gives us a fantastic opportunity to make it a real celebration.”
Primary Schools and performing arts groups wishing to participate in the project can register their interest until 31st May at www.cresset.co.uk/performing-arts/ with submissions accepted until 7th June.
During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1 billion to charities and community organisations across the UK.
